The Texas Business Leadership Council’s Richard W. Weekley Public Policy Leadership Award was established in 2014 to celebrate the organization’s 20th anniversary. The award acknowledges the invaluable contributions made by business leaders in developing sound public policy for the benefit of the state of Texas and its citizens.
ABOUT DICK WEEKLEY
Dick Weekley has been called a giant in Texas. His decades’ long commitment to fighting the intractable problem of lawsuit abuse in the Lone Star State has been a key factor in keeping the Texas business environment strong and assuring that the economy is resilient. He was also a leader in the movement to transform his hometown of Houston into a world class city. Weekley has been active in the real estate business throughout his career, including commercial development and brokerage.
Weekley is co-founder of David Weekley Homes, the largest privately owned home building company in America. Long active in community affairs, Weekley serves on the Executive Committee of the Greater Houston Partnership, the Board of the Metropolitan YMCA and the Texas Business Leadership Council. He is a founder of Texans for Lawsuit Reform where he is Chairman and CEO. A graduate of Southern Methodist University, Weekley served as a Line Officer in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.
When the Richard W. Weekley Public Policy Leadership Award was established in 2014, it was observed “If we had 50 Dick Weekleys, we could solve every problem in this country.” We are grateful that the one Dick Weekley we do have is in Texas.
